Hi Parker, here’s something I found on another post.

“If you highlight the text (with the type tool) the Create Outlines menu will be grayed out.

If you select the type with one of the object Selection tool (v) the Create Outlines menu will be available.”

I see now I should make this clear in the tutorial! Hope that did it, and thanks for catching that for me.

Hi, Im a little confused about the part where you create outlines. I try to do it, but it wont let me click create outlines. I highlight the words and then go to type>create outlines, but its not bold and I cant click it. I need this for a project thats due this week! Can you help??

p.s.

The Color Palette always shows percentages of Black.

If I duplicate the 3D pieces and drag them elsewere and try changing the color to Bright Yellow or Bright Green, for example, I’m still left with a percentage of black on the Color Palette slider. I can’t seem to get RGB or CMYK colors.

Just a thought.

Hey Alan,

Thanks for the quick reply. I’m familiar with Hex numbering and don’t enter the pound sign.

I don’t know if this might have anything to do with the problem, but Step 9 Item 1 says…

“1.Select the 3D text and go Object > Expand Appearance.”

However, “Expand Appearance” is grayed out and not available.

Don’t lose any sleep over this, I’m just curious as to what I might have done wrong or what step I might have missed.

Again, thanks for your help and your tutorial.

Hi there, thanks for trying this tut out!

By “3D” I just mean the part of the letters behind the letter faces. I think you’ve found a typo there, woops!

The dark red is pretty close to black, but if it looks wrong make sure you leave the “#” out when you’re entering the numbers. That could be the problem. The “#” is just how we denote a color “hex” number.
